BULLDOGS ROLL ON; CRUSH MINNESOTA CROOKSTON 63-7

Saturday, November 1, 2008

Two words can aptly describe the University of Minnesota Duluth's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division matchup with the University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon: simply relentless.

The unbeaten and eighth ranked Bulldogs found the enzone on nine of their first 10 drives en route to a 63-7 victory over the Golden Eagles and captured at least a share of the NSIC title. The victory, a school-record tying sixth on the road for UMD this season, moved the Bulldogs to 10-0 overall and 9-0 in the NSIC.

Isaac Odim eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the third straight game -- and the fifth time this season -- running for 131 yards and a career-high four touchdowns on just 10 carries while fellow sophomore running back Brad Foss also rushed 10 times and finished with 95 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs, who took a 49-0 lead into halftime (they have now outscored the opposition 315-37), rolled up a season-best 565 yards of total offense while holding the Golden Eagles (2-8 overall; 1-8 NSIC) to just 175 yards, including a mere 47 through the air.

UMD senior quarterback Ted Schlafke capped off his final regular season road appearance as a collegian by connecting on 13 of 19 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns. He and his second-half replacement, true freshman Jon Lynch (2-of-2 for 31 yards), hooked up with 10 different receivers on the afternoon, including senior Tony Doherty, who had a game-high five receptions.

The Bulldogs will look to put the finishing touches on its third perfect regular season in school history next Saturday (Nov. 8) when they host Winona State University.
