UMD MEN TRIPPED UP BY NORTHERN MICHIGAN 79-74 SUNDAY

Northern Michigan University overcame a six-point hafltime and used some hot three-point shooting in the final 20 minutes of play to pull out a a 79-74 victory over the University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday afternoon in Marquette, Mich.
The Bulldogs came out of the gates quick as they shot an impressive 67 percent from the floor in the first half, while the host Wildcats could muster just 39 percent shooting from the field.
With the hot-shooting, UMD found themselves with a six-point advantage at the break, as they went into the locker room holding a 40-34 lead
But the second half was a different story.
The Bulldogs cooled off, as they shot just 43 percent from the floor, while the Wildcats keyed their comeback by shooting a lights-out 67 percent from outside the arc and 50 percent from the field.
Though the scored indicated that UMD lost the game, the Bulldogs controlled the glass by out-rebounding Northern Michigan 34-28, while they shot 54 percent from the floor compared to the host Wildcats' 44 percent.
However, it was Northern Michigan's hot hand from the three-point line that was too much for the Bulldogs as the Wildcats (2-0 overall) piled up 42 points on three-pointers, connecting at a 48 percent rate, compared to the UMD's 31 percent.
The Bulldogs, who are now 2-2 on the year, were led by senior center John Vaudreuil who recorded a double-double by pacing UMD with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Bloomington, Minn. native shot 80 percent (8-for-10) from the charity stripe and 60 percent (6-for-10) from the field, while the team captain also added an assist, a block and a steal in the loss.
Junior forward Brian Sykora also had a stellar afternoon as he poured in 20 points for the Bulldogs. The Bloomington, Minn. native shot a team-leading 77 percent (10-for-13) from the floor. Ron White finished with 10 points and four steals while fellow junior forward Steve Duncan came off the bench to add nine points.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next Sunday (Nov. 23) as they are set to hit road to Houghton, Mich. to battle Michigan Tech University.
