BULLDOG MEN AND WOMEN CAPTURE TEAM TITLES AT PINE HILL INVITE SATURDAY

The No. 11 Minnesota-Duluth women’s cross country team dominated the field on Saturday in Carlton, Minn., in the snow and cold, compiling 18 points to capture the team title at the Pine Hill Invitational. The Bulldogs were once again paced by sophomore sensation Morgan Place who won her fifth consecutive race this fall and 11 of 13 as a collegian. The Ellsworth, Wis. native completed the 6K course (21:36), The Bulldogs ran a tight pack finishing 7 women out of the top 8, freshman Alyssa Salava (2nd place; 22:52), the junior quartet followed being led by Michelle SanCartier (4th; 23:27), Carried Wardell (5th; 23:36), Bridget Hines (6th; 23:43), and Whitney Hines (7th; 23:51), finishing the Bulldog top 8, senior Alyssa Wendt (8th; 24:02).
On the men’s side, UMD had a strong performance from sophomore Nick Nygaard (2nd;26:34), UMD senior captain Zach Varty (4th; 26:47), freshman Tom Ruttger (6th; 26:54), junior Erik Escher (8th; 27:04), and sophomore Kyle Larson rounded out our scorers (11th; 27:14).
The Bulldogs will continue their 2009 season next Saturday (Oct. 17) at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational.
