Sunday afternoon's battle with No. 1 Michigan Tech didn't yield the result the University of Minnesota Duluth was looking for. The Bulldogs ended up in the win column Tuesday night against Minot State University, but were far from perfect in doing so.

UMD shot just 22-of-60 from the floor and 17-of-29 from the free throw line en route to a 66-61 victory at Romano Gymnasium. The Beavers, who compete in the NAIA, shot at a higher percentage in both field goals and free throws for the game.

Senior forward Jheri Booker led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Lindsay Miller chipped in with 14 points and junior forward Kelsey Hewitt added 13 to round out the UMD players in double figures.

"A win is a win," Bulldog head coach Annette Wiles said. "I'll take a win anywhere against anybody."

Wiles credited UMD's defensive effort while acknowledging her team's struggles from the free-throw line.

"I thought we did our part defensively in keeping it a low-scoring game. As far as the free throws go, our players have to step up to that line and put them in," Wiles said.

The Bulldogs looked to be in danger of a major upset with time winding down in the second half. Up 59-57, Miller took a pass in the corner and knocked down a clutch three-pointer, giving UMD a two-possession lead that stood for the rest of the contest.

The win runs the Bulldogs' record to 1-1 overall. Minot State falls to 3-2 with the loss.

UMD will take to the hardwood this weekend when the Bulldogs travel to Warrensburg, Mo. in the team's first road trip of the season. The Bulldogs will square off with the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Friday at 12:30 before taking on the University of Central Missouri Saturday evening.
