Now they know how Princeton University must have felt.

Last March, the University of Minnesota-Duluth pulled out a 5-4 victory over the Tigers in the NCAA West Regional semifinals by scoring with .8 seconds remaining in regulation and potting the game-winner six minutes into overtime. Saturday night, the Bulldogs found themselves on the other end of that situation, as Bemidji State University struck with just 1.3 seconds to play in the third period and then completed the stunning 5-4 win on their first shot of overtime.

Junior defenseman Chad Huttel and senior left winger Jordan Fulton both collected their first goals of the season to give UMD a 2-1 lead at the second intermission. The two clubs then exchanged third-period goals with sophomore center Travis Oleksuk and freshman right winger Mike Seidel (the go-ahead score at the 14:06 mark) doing the honors for the Bulldogs. With goalie Dan Bakala pulled for an extra attacker, Bemidji State's Ben Kinne scored off a scramble in front of the UMD net to send the game into overtime before Jordan George, on a breakaway,  roofed a backhander over Bulldog sophomore  Brady Hjelle to complete the comeback.

The loss was the Bulldogs' first in their last 15 overtime games (5-1-9), going back to a 2-1 setback to the University of North Dakota in the 2007-08 home finale, and their first in the last 40 outings they've held a lead heading into the third period (36-1-3).  It also marked the first time UMD lost a game in which it scored three or more goals this season (15-1-1).

Olesuk and sophomore right winger David Grun both turned in two-point nights for the Bulldogs while junior left winger Rob Bordson was credited with one assist -- on Seidel's goal -- to extend his scoring streak to a personal high nine games.

No. 4 UMD, which fell 4-1 to the No. 14 Beavers Friday night in Bemidji, Minn. outshot their future Western Collegiate Hockey Association colleagues 35-24 and 24-12 in the first 40 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs will remain at the DECC next weekend to host the University of Wisconsin in a pair of WCHA showdowns. UMD currently holds down the No. 1 spot in the WCHA standings with five series to go.
