Wednesday, April 21, 2010

The Bulldogs will be the NCAA defending champions once again in the 2010-2011 season.
The Bulldogs will be the NCAA defending champions once again in the 2010-2011 season.

It has only been a month since the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team clinched it's fifth NCAA title, but with the release of next year's schedule, the Bulldogs are already looking ahead into defending it.

UMD will enter its 12th season as a NCAA Division I program in 2010-2011 on Oct. 1-2, when the Bulldogs host the Minnesota White Caps in an exhibition series at the DECC.  Head coach Shannon Miller will be on the bench for her 300th game on Oct. 8 in Grand Forks, ND, where UMD will open the regular season portion -- and WCHA -- part of its schedule against the University of North Dakota.

Highlights of the 2010-11 schedule include a first ever meeting against the University of Connecticut at the DECC on Oct. 23-24 -- the only series that UMD will step outside of the WCHA for next year.  Following the Bulldogs series against the Huskies, UMD will rematch against 2010 NCAA Frozen Four semifinal opponent the University of Minnesota at the DECC on Oct. 29-30.

UMD will play its first game at the brand new DECC on Jan. 21 against the University of Wisconsin as the Badgers will square off in Duluth on Jan. 21-22.  The Bulldogs will open the 2011 portion of their schedule at the place they ended their 2010 title run  -- at Ridder Arena -- on Jan. 14-15 against the Gophers.
