UMD REMAINS AT NO. 2 IN AFCA II POLL, LONE NSIC SCHOOL AMONG TOP 25

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

There was no movement among the top seven spots in this week's American Football Coaches Association Division II poll, which means the University of Minnesota Duluth found itself again lodged in the No. 2 position behind reigning national champion Pittsburg State University. The Bulldogs were the only Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team to crack the Top 25, although St. Cloud State University, Minnesota State University-Mankato, University of Sioux Falls and Winona State University all received votes.

The Bulldogs, which kicked off their 80th season of intercollegiate football last Thursday with a 45-20 NSIC win at Southwest Minnesota State University, will host Winona State this Saturday night in their 2012 home opener.

With the exception of just two times (both coming last fall), UMD has cracked the Top 10 in every AFCA II weekly poll since Sept. 29, 2008.
