Saturday afternoon presented a perfect opportunity for the University of Minnesota Duluth to answer a disappointing home opener. Instead, a forgettable week became even more frustrating as the Bulldogs were shut out by Winona State 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, the Warriors (3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) struck in the 68th minute with the eventual game-winning goal. Winona State tacked on an insurance marker less than 15 minutes later to put the game out of reach. The Bulldogs have now gone three-plus halves of play without scoring a goal.

UMD (1-3; 0-2) was able to generate opportunities on offense, but could not solve Warrior goalkeeper Alexandria Vial. The Bulldogs finished with eight shots on goal for the game, and had six chances come on corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Hanna Iaizzo made two saves in the losing effort. Redshirt freshman Marissa Rosa saw the field for the second time in three outings as she came on with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Bulldogs wrap up their road trip on Sunday, when they take on Upper Iowa. Kickoff in that NSIC clash is set for 1:00 p.m.
