NO. 3 UMD THROTTLES MINOT STATE
Saturday, October 6, 2012
Junior outside hitter Kate Lange posted a match-high 12 kills in leading the University of Minnesota Duluth to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-20) sweep of Minot State University Saturday. The Bulldogs took the first-ever meeting between the two programs in convincing fashion, marking UMD's 12th straight-set win (and third in as many outings) this fall.
The Bulldogs had their way on offense from start to finish, clubbing a collective 41 kills while holding the Beavers to a combined total of 21. Minot State hit just .030 for the match and attacked for a negative percentage in two of the tree sets as UMD combined for seven total blocks. Freshman middle blocker Monica Turner posted nine kills on 16 swings (.429) and finished the weekend without committing an error.
Rookie setter Ashley Hinsch passed out 22 assists in two-plus sets of action. Sophomore Jaclyn Barrette made it onto the court in the third set (as she did Friday night) with the match in hand, closing the afternoon with nine assists and four digs. Sophomore right side hitter Maddy Siroin made the most of her 10 swings with eight kills against one error (.700) for the afternoon.
UMD (18-1 overall; 8-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) will hit the road again next Friday and Saturday for NSIC clashes at Augustana College and Wayne State College.
