Michael Gergen, who wrapped up his four-year playing career at the University of Minnesota Duluth a couple of months ago, has signed a professional contract with the Salzburg Red Bulls. Gergen will report to the Austrian-based team's training camp on July 28.
Gergen, a 5-11, 195-pound center/left wing from Hastings, Minn., collected nine goals and nine assists for 18 points and was a plus-2 while skating in 42 of UMD's 43 games this winter. A three-time member of the WCHA All-Academic Team and a WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient in 2007-08, Gergen played in 153 lifetime games with the Bulldogs and had 69 points (34 goals and 35 assists) to show for it. He joined the UMD program in September 2005, two months after being selected in the second round (61st pick overall) by the Pittsburgh Peguins in the National Hockey League entry draft.
