ALL-NSIC HONORS BESTOWED ON PAIR OF BULLDOGS

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has dished out its all-league awards for 2012-13, and a pair of University of Minnesota Duluth student-athletes were among those honored. Senior guard Jake Hottenstine and junior center Brett Ervin landed All-NSIC Second Team acclaim, the league office announced Wednesday.

Hottenstine landed a second spot on the All-NSIC Second Team in as many seasons after finishing the year as the eighth-most prolific scorer in the league behind an average of 15.7 points per game. The Green Bay, Wis., native saw 33 minutes per night, a figure that ranked first among Bulldogs and 11th in the NSIC. Hottenstine broke double figures in scoring in 22 of 26 outings on the year and reached the 20-point barrier on seven occasions (including a career-best 38-point effort Dec. 14, 2012 on the road against MSU-Moorhead.)

A former standout at Eden Prairie High School, Ervin finished the season ranked sixth in the league scoring race with an average of 16.2 points per game -- tops among UMD scorers. Ervin knocked down 47 percent of his 3-pointers on the year (a clip bested by just one other player in the NSIC) and broke the 20-point plateau on 10 occasions while racking up one double-double on the year. The 2010-11 NSIC Freshman of the Year also led the Bulldogs in rebounding and total assists this past winter.
