Both University of Minnesota junior
Dan Nielsen and sophomore
Appo Agbamu brought home invidual championships from Friday's University of St. Thomas Invitational in St. Paul while a bevy of other Bulldogs also turned in top three finishes.
Nielsen won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:38.29 -- the seventh individual best in program history -- while Agbamu reigned supreme in the shot put. His toss of 15.45 meters also put him seventh on the school's all-time charts. Junior
Nick Moran finished second in the weight throw, but his 16.72-meter effort was good for third all-time among Bulldog career highs. Also coming away with second-place finishes were freshman
Nick Van Watermeulen (pole vault; 3.80 meters), sophomore
Mark Emlaw (long jump; 6.68 meters), junior
Scott Urban (800-meter run; 1:58.17)Â and
Tyler Stevens (mile run; 4:21.01). Stevens' teammate and fellow senior,
Jason Coffin, took third in that same race (4:22.35) while junior
Holden Olson (200-meter dash; 23.14) and freshman
Josh Regorrah (pole vault; 3.65) were also third in their respective events.
Next Saturday (Feb. 1) a select group of Bulldogs will participate in the Mankato State Open while the remainder of the squad is scheduled to be in Menomomie, Wis., that day for the Warren Bowlus Open.
