For the first time since 2012, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference indoor pentathlon title belongs to someone not from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Bree Woelber of Augustana College now owns that honor after outpointing 16 other competitors at the league's championship event Sunday in Mankato, Minn.
Defending champion
Amelia Maher of UMD placed third with a point total of 3,532 while Woelber accumulated 3,892 points. University of Sioux Falls' Katlyn Sawtelle was second (3,726 pts.) and Bulldog junior
Madeline Schaeffer wound up 13th (2,921 pts.). Maher's highest finishes in any of the five events came in the 800-meter run where she placed second -- for the second year in a row -- with a time of 2:24.25 and in the high jump (tied for third; 5'-03.25")
Current UMD senior Channel Miller won the 2013 NSIC pentathlon crown and finished second to Maher last year.
