Five individuals -- senior
Alexandra Rudin, juniors
Hannah Olson and
Madeline Schaeffer, sophomore
Samantha Rivard and freshman
Emilee Trost -- will represent the University of Minnesota Duluth at the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, which gets underway this Friday (March 13) at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
2014 All-Americans Rivard and Olson are the only two returners from last year's indoor meet and both will compete in the 3,000-meter run. Rivard, the defending NCAA II indoor champion (she qualified for that event this year, but elected not to run and focus instead on the 3,000- and 5,000-meter races). Olson, however, will take part in the mile run again with hopes of improving her All-American seventh-place finish from a year ago. She's be accompanied in that race by Trost and that duo will join Schaeffer and Rudin in the distance medley relay. Schaeffer, Trost and Rudin will all be making their national indoor track debuts. Rudin, who along with Rivard, Olson and Trost all turned in delivered All-American performances at last December's NCAA II Cross Country Championships, participated in the 2014 NCAA II outdoor meet.
"I am excited to see what these women can do at the nationals," said UMD head coach
Joanna Warmington. "I know they are experienced runners and have put their work into this indoor season. Hopefully, we can stay healthy and come home with some All-American honors!"
Preliminaries for the mile are set for 4:30 p.m. (CT) Friday with the finals taking place the following day at 3:15 p.m. On Friday, finals will be held for both the 5,000-meter run (6:45 p.m.) and the distance medley relay (7:30 p.m.), while the 3,000 meter finals are scheduled for Saturday at 5:40 p.m.
