All-American Morgan Place's University of Minnesota Duluth record in the steeplechase, which had stood for just under three years, was surpassed Friday by not one, but two Bulldogs. Junior
Hannah Olson and senior
Alexandra Rudin placed 1-2 in that event at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, and both did it in record-breaking fashion with times of 10:38.45 and 10.50.27. Place had held the previous school mark of 10:50.46 which she set on April 14, 2012.
At that same event,
Emilee Trost captured the 1,500-meter run crown (in 4:30.16 and the next five finishers all hailed from NCAA Division I schools) and was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:17.11) while another Bulldog rookie,
McKenzie Holt took second in the 10,000-meter run (37:44.38). Sophomore
Breanna Colbenson finished third in the 5,000-meter run (17.16.53) and Olson also finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run (4:38.08).
A large contingent of Bulldogs took part in Saturday's Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. Among the highlights there were runnerup finishes by senior
Amelia Maher in both the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.75) and in the high jump (1.65 meters) and sophomore All-American Sam Rivard in the 1,500-meter run (4:41.70) as well as third-place efforts by freshman
