The senior team captain trio of
Phil d'Entremont,
Nick Moran and
Dan Nielsen -- as well as the University of Minnesota Duluth's 4 x 400 relay team -- were each event winners at the two-day Meet of the UnSaintly, which concluded Saturday on the Hamline University campus in St. Paul.
d'Entremont took top honors in the 800-meter run, finishing in a season-best time of 1:53.96. Moran did likewise in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.13 meters and Nielsen outran 11 other competitors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying-clocking of 9:20.07. d'Entremont and first-year Bulldogs
Connor Behm,
Darrick Jackson, and
Frank Deluca captured the 4 x 400 relay crown, crossing the finish line in 3:18.02. Behm also took second in the 400-meter dash (48.46) while junior
Brendon Pineda was runnerup in the discus throw (48.72) and third in the shot put (15.29 meters). He and Moran (fourth place; 47.15 meters) each produced season bests in the discus. Seniors
Jacob Nelson and
Holden Olson and freshmen
Joey Kolpin (who was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.16) and
Nick Beattie teamed up in the 4 x 100 relay and wound up second in 42.35. The 800 meter crew posted excellent times behind d'Entremont, as freshmen
Garrett Benz and
Josh Peterson finished third and fourth in 1:54.35 and 1:54.51, respectively, while sophomore
Boston Braack finished in 1:56.06. Junior
James Ryan posted the second fastest 110 meter hurdle time of the day in prelims as his dipped under the 15 second plateau for the first time ever with his 14.95 effort.
Next up for UMD is the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday (May 8-9) in Sioux Falls, S.D.
