The University of Minnesota Duluth returned from a 15-day layoff Saturday morning and finished seventh among 20 teams - and sixth among all colleges and universities -- at the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield, Minn.
Host St. Olaf captured the team title with a team score of 59 while the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire took runner-up honors (73 pts.). Those two schools ranked No. 1 and No. 4, respectively, in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Poll.
The Bulldogs (177 pts.) were led by sophomore
Blake Anderson, who completed the 8K race in 26:19.9, good for 24th overall in the 308-runner field. Three other sophomores were next --
Cody Sedbrook (26th place; 26:24.9),
Henry Jessen (33rd; 26:40.3) and
Alex Naughton (48th; 27:03.5) while freshman
Adam Armbruster (52nd; 27:07.7) was the final point getter. The sixth and seventh UMD finishers were rookies
Isaac Overmyer (67th; 27:18.7) and
Gage Sachs (79th; 27:32.5).
UMD will pay a visit to the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn., next Saturday (Sept. 26) for the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational.
