The University of Minnesota Duluth launched its 2016-17 track and field season by making the six-block trek west to the College of St. Scholastica for The Opener and concluded that two-day event Saturday with nine individual titles, three school records, one automatic NCAA Division II Championship qualifier and three more provisional qualifiers.
Headlining the list of UMD's first-place finishers was junior
Emi Trost, who punched her ticket to this March's NCAA II indoor nationals with a program-best 9:34.09 clocking in the 3,000-meter run. That time, which also eclipsed the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse record of 9:48.7 (which she set one year ago), was close to seven seconds better than the previous UMD mark of 9:40.94 held since Jan. 25, 2015 by Samantha Rivard. Danielle Kohlwey broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles by a .01 seconds by finishing in 8.66 and also took first in the 200-meter dash (26.05).. Kohlwey (in the 60-meter hurdles), junior

Dayeton Tolle in the 800-meter run (2:36.88)
The Bulldogs will return to action on Jan. 14 to compete in University of Minnesota Open.
