Emilee Trost added her name to another University of Minnesota Duluth indoor track and field record Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Parents Day Invite. The sophomore All-American out of Goodhue, Minn., won the 800-meter run crown, clocking in at 2:08.67 -- the fastest NCAA Division II time at the moment. Trost, who now owns four UMD records (three individual and one relay), shaved nearly two seconds off the previous school mark (2:10.65) set by Liz Palkie at the 2009 NCAA II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Houston, Texas.
Freshman
Danielle Kohlwey also turned in a record-breaking performance Saturday, finishing first in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.71 -- bettering current senior
Chanel Miller's 8.75 effort from three years ago.
In addition to Trost and Kohlwey, other Bulldogs to claim titles Saturday included freshman
Megan Stuart in the 1,000-meter run (3:04.80) and junior
Breanna Colbenson in the 3,000-meter run (a NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 9:42.92 -- the seventh best mark in the nation). Miller, fresh off a third-place finish at last Sunday's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Pentathlon Championships, took runnerup honors 60-meter hurdles (8.85) as did sophomore
Erica Kesseh (in a school record-tying 7.78), junior
Brittany Platt in the 1,000-meter run (3:05.04), freshman
Michaela Hesse in the high jump (5'-03.25") and sophomore
Courtney Spang in the pole vault (10'-00.75"). Third-place finishes were generated by freshman
Sarah Schrader (33'-10.75" in the triple jump), senior
Hannah Olson (4:57.71 in the mile run) and Kesseh (26.53 in the 200-meter dash).
The Bulldogs will be in Mankato, Minn., this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 26-27) for the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
