For the third year in a row, the University of Minnesota Duluth placed fifth as a team at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which wrapped up today on the Minnesota State University-Mankato campus.
Host Minnesota State-Mankato captured its first straight NSIC crown with 209.20 points and were followed in the 11-school competition by Augustana College (99 pts.), St. Cloud State University (95 pts.), Minnesota State University-Moorhead (79.20 pts.), UMD (59.20 pts.) and the University of Sioux Falls (58 pts.)
UMD's top finish came in the distance medley relay where the sophomore quartet of
Josh Peterson,
Connor Behm,
Nathan Comer and
Grant Pulver took second with a time of 10:24.13. Behm joined fellow sophomores
Frank Deluca,
Austin Carlson and
Darrick Jackson in 4 x 400 meter relay and placed third (3:24.35) as did junior
Brian Lee in the weight throw (57'-11.25"). Fifth-place finishes were turned in by sophomore
Cody Sedbrook in both the 3000-meter (8:36.87) and 5000-meter runs (15:07.56), junior
Ben Hanson in the 800-meter run (1:58.14),
Josh Peterson in the mile run (4:22.87), and freshman
Adam Armbruster in the 1000-meter run (2:35.98). Other point getters for the Bulldogs included sophomore
Henry Jessen in the 5000-meter run (sixth place; 15:10.59), junior
Jason Lilja in the high jump (tied for sixth place; 6'-06.00") and long jump (seventh place; 22'-07.00'), senior
James Ryan in the 60-meter hurdles (seventh place; 8.43), senior
Kern Wilson in the weight throw (seventh place; 54'-03.75") and Pulver in the mile run (eighth place; 4:24.02).Â
The top three finishers in each event and top two relay teams earned All-NSIC status.
