BULLDOGS TURN IN A DOZEN TOP-10 FINISHES SATURDAY AT HOLST INVITATIONAL

On a perfect spring day inside Concordia University-St. Paul's Sea Foam Stadium, the University of Minnesota Duluth had 12 individuals place among the top 10 finishers in their repsective events Saturday at the Holst Invitational. The event drew an all-time high 35 women's and men's teams and over 1,000 athletes.

Among those was sophomore Erica Kesseh, who was second in the 100-meter dash (12.17) and eighth in the 200-meter run (25.94). Freshmen Michaela Hesse also turned in a second-place effort, doing so in the high jump (5'-03.00") as did Elizabeth Brunner in the triple jump (37'-09.50"). In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Bulldogs finished 3-4-6 with freshman Megan Stuart (11:58.33), senior Erica Seidenkranz (12:01.21) and junior Caitlan Richard (12:27:49) doing the honors. In addition, senior Lydia Kinglsey took fifth in the hammer throw (155'-07"), Sarah Schrader tied for sixth in the long jump (17'-04.25'), sophomore Rachelle LeBlanc tied for eighth in the pole vault (10'-06.00'), freshman Cassidy Baker placed ninth in the high jump (5'-03.00) and freshman Lorna Meyer wound up 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.52)

In addition, a quartet of Bulldogs -- seniors Chanel Miller and Hannah Olson, junior Breanna Colbenson, and freshman Danielle Kohlwey paid a visit to California where they competed in the 58th annual Mt. Sac Relays at Cerritos College and at the Long Beach State University Invitational. On Thursday at the Mt. Sac Relays, both Colbenson and Olson bettered the school's 3,000-meter steeplechase record, which Olson set one year earlier at the Drake Relays (10:31.35). Colbenson posted the fastest time in her heat, finishing in 10:23.31 and that automatically qualified the Elmwood, Wis., product, for next month's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while Olson's clocking was 10:28.88. Colbenson then went on to place second out of 34 runners in the Long Beach State Invitational's 5,000-meter run competition (16:53.17)

UMD will be in Fargo, N.D. this Friday and Saturday for the Lyle Hokanson Invitational on the campus of North Dakota State University.
