Isaac Overmyer captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase title and headlined a bevy of top-six finishes by University of Minnesota Duluth freshmen and sophomores at the two-day Lyle Hokanson Classic, which wrapped up Saturday on the North Dakota State University campus.
Overmyer, a first-year Bulldog, crossed the finish line in 9:33.41 which bettered his previous time in that event from two weeks ago by over 18 seconds.
Connor Behm placed fifth the 100-meter dash (11.29) and he (22.41) and fellow sophomores
Nick Beattie (22.76) and
Frank Deluca (22.83) finished 4-6-7, respectively, in the 200-meter run. Deluca was also sixth in the 400-meter dash (51.28), one spot ahead of another UMD sophomore,
Austin Carlson (51.33). The 3,000-meter run was an intrasquad event as a dozen Bulldogs made up the entire field. That included sophomore
Henry Jessen, who came out on top (9:03.88) with Overmyer in 2nd (9:08.99) and sophomore
Grant Pulver in 3rd (9:11.84). In addition, rookie
Ryan Tolkinen was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.72) freshman
