In its final tune up before next weekend's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the University of Minnesota Duluth took part in the Warrior Challenge on Saturday at Winona State University, where three Bulldogs -- freshman
Elizabeth Brunner, junior
Breanna Colbenson and freshman
Danielle Kohlwey -- won individual titles.
Brunner took top honors in the triple jump for the fourth time in six outdoor meets this spring with a leap of 37'-11.50". Colbenson, the reigning NSIC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week who has already set a pair of UMD records (5,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase) in 2016, prevailed in the 1,500-meter run and did so with an NCAA II provisionally-qualifying time of 4:31.90. Caitlan Richard was second (4:55.28) in that event. Kohlwey, meanwhile, continued to build on her impressive collegiate rookie season by placing first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.16.
UMD also received Top-4 finishes from sophomore
Erica Kesseh in both the 100-meter (second place; 12.32) and 200-meter dashes (third; 25.97), freshman
Lorna Meyer in the 100-meter hurdles (third; 15.72), freshman
Taylor Amundson in the 400-meter dash (fourth; 60.50), sophomore
Faith Murphy in the 100-meter hurdles (fourth; 15.77), freshman
Megan Stuart in the 1,500-meter (fourth; 4:56.10) and 3,000-meter runs (fourth; 11:13.77), Colbenson in the 3,000-meter run (third; 11:13.77) and Brunner in the long jump (fourth; 18'-02.25).
The two-day NSIC outdoor meet is set to start this Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
