On a muddy 8K course that had been saturated with heavy rains earlier in the week, the University of Minnesota Duluth ran to a share of 10th place among 40 teams at Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minn.
Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference colleague Augustana University captured top team honors, scoring 88 points to finish well ahead of runner-up the University of California-San Diego (130 points). UMD and another member of the NSIC, Minnesota State University-Mankato, both totaled 341 points.
"The wet conditions on the Les Bolstad Golf Course did play a factor," said UMD head coach
Paul Nisius. "You could see it in the times -- they were slower than normal."
UMD, which was without the services of junior captain
Cody Sedbrook (a consistent top five Bulldog), was paced for the second straight meet by sophomore
Isaac Overmyer. The reigning NSIC Cross Country Athlete of the Week placed 18th out of a 453 individual finishers with a time of 26:56. Junior captain
Henry Jessen (28th place; 27:09), junior
Blake Anderson (92nd place; 28:05) and senior captain
Drew Johnson (100th place; 28:10) were the other three UMD point producers.
The Bulldogs will be off until Oct. 8 when they compete in the Lewis University Invitational in Romeoville, Ill.
