BULLDOGS SHINE AT THREE DIFFERENT MEETS OVER THE WEEKEND

While some members of the University of Minnesota Duluth women's track and field team hunkered down in Brookings, S.D., for a pair of meets, most of the Bulldogs stayed close to home to compete in the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Twin Ports Invite on Saturday.

UMD captured eight individual titles at the Twin Ports Invite, with freshman Savannah Rivard leading the way by winning both the 200-meter (27.67) and 400-meter dash (1:03.74). Fellow rookie Sarah Harrison also reigned in the 600-meter run (1:44.52) as did junior Rachel Buck in the weight throw (48'-01.25"), sophomore Michaela Hesse in the high jump (5'-0.25"), junior Rachelle LeBlanc in the pole vault (10'-11.75"), sophomore Hailey Franklin in the triple jump (32'-09.50"),  and junior Amber Seidenkranz in the mile run (5:26.07). Hesse's and LeBlanc's effort were both Twin Ports Invite records.

On Friday at the South Dakota State University DII Invitational, junior Emi Trost (2:53.41) and senior Breanna Colbenson (2:57.05) finished one-two in the 1,000-meter run while sophomore Danielle Kohlwey placed first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.73). In addition, freshman Alyssa Kavajecz took top honors in the high jump (1.57 meters) and junior Katherine Hawkinson was runnerup in the triple jump (11.23 meters). Trost joined forces with sophomore Allie Stalboerger and freshmen Paige DuBois and Elizabeth Kyes to take second in the 4 x 400-meter relay.

South Dakota State hosted the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invitational the following afternoon and Kohlwey won her second 60-meter hurdle crown in as many days and did so in  a school-record time of 8.63 (she set the previous mark of 8.67 at last February's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships). Trost also claimed another title, placing first in the 800-meter run in an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 2:10.58 (the second fastest clocking in the nation at the moment).

Next up for the Bulldogs is the Minnesota State University-Mankato Multis (Friday) and Open (Saturday) as well as the two-day Jack Johnson Classic, which kicks off on Friday on the University of Minnesota campus.
