Austin Carlson each came away with individual titles for the University of Minnesota Duluth Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stout's Warren Bowlus Invitational.
Lilja was a double winner, claiming both the high jump (6'-08.75" - an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark) and the long jump (a personal best leap of 22'-10.50", which was 1.75 inches off the UMD indoor record). Carlson reigned in the 400-meter dash, topping that 32-competitor race in a career best time of 50.62. The Bulldogs' got a third-place effort from senior
Brian Lee in the weight throw (54'-06.00") while junior
Blake Anderson (15:43.45) and freshman
Kendall Hill (15:56,52) went 2-3 in the 5,000-meter run. Fourth place finishes were turned in by senior
Boston Braack in the 600-meter dash (1:25.36), senior
Ben Hanson in the 800-meter run (1:58.60), sophomore
Chris Timm in the pole vault (14'-00.50"), junior
Logan Rubeck in the 60-meter hurdles (8.91) and junior
Cody Sedbrook in the 3,000-meter run (8:30.32 -- a personal best and NCAA II provisional qualifying time as well as the top clocking in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference so far this season).
The 4 x 400 relay team of Carlson, juniors
Connor Behm and
Darrick Jackson, and freshman
AJ Belchak were also Warren Bowlus Invitational champions, running a 3:30.08.
The Bulldogs will remain in Duluth next Saturday (Feb. 4) for the College of St. Scholastica's Lake Superior Challenge.
