They competed in two different meets, but University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore
Danielle Kohlwey and
Emi Trost did have at least one thing in common -- they each won an individual title.
Kohlwey took first place in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.68 at the Minnesota State University Open in Mankato, Minn, while Trost prevailed over 32 other runners in the mile run at the University of Minnesota's Jack Johnson Classic (which was comprised of primarily NCAA I teams). She clocked in at 4:46.76 -- an automatic NCAA Division II qualifying mark and the top time in the nation at the moment. She also finished a little more than 10 seconds ahead of teammate
Breanna Colbenson (4:56.81), who wound up sixth.
UMD also got third-place MSU Open finishes from sophomore
Michaela Hesse in the high jump (5'-04.50") and the
Elizabeth Kyes in the 600-meter run (1:40.22). Fellow freshmen
Sarah Harrison was one spot back in that race (1:40.99).
A select number of Bulldogs also were in Menomonie, Wis., Saturday for the Warren Bowlus Invitational and among those was junior
Rachelle LeBlanc, who was runnerup in the pole vault with a 10'-08.25" effort.
In all, 19 personal highs were registered by Bulldogs at the three meets -- 16 at the MSU Open, two at the Warren Bowlus Invitational and one at the Jack Johnson Classic.
Some Bulldogs will remain in Duluth next Saturday (Feb. 4) to compete in the Lake Superior Challenge on the College of St. Scholastica campus with the others taking part in the Ted Nelson Classic in Mankato that same day.
