TORVE AND MORGEN NAMED TO CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have voted University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore setter Emily Torve and junior outside hitter Makenzie Morgen to the District 7 Academic All-American team, which was announced on Thursday.

CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their collective efforts on the court and in the classroom. District 7 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA), and the Great American Conference (GAC). The University of Minnesota Duluth was the only institution in the district to have more than one player named to the All-American team.

Torve, a native of Loretto, Minn., ranks fourth in the nation with 12.24 assists/set. The chemical engineering major moved up to ninth all-time among set assists with 2,517 at UMD as she reached 1,000 assists for a second consecutive season. Throughout all of Division II, Torve is the current leader among active players in assists per set at 12.07 and recently turned in a new personal match-high with 65 assists in the regular season finale.

Morgen, a native of Appleton, Wis., sits third on the team in kills/per set with 3.22 and second in digs per set at 3.06. The biology major is currently on pace at become the first Bulldog to average at least 3.00 kills per set and 3.00 digs per set since Kate Lange accomplished that feat in 2011. Morgen also leads the club in service aces with 38, the most since 2011 and has compiled 11 double-doubles on the season. She also set collegiate highs in kills (27) and digs (24) in the regular season finale at Wayne State.

Both Torve and Morgan will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot with the 2017 national honorees will be selected on Dec. 12.

UMD (24-5 overall) competes in the NSIC tournament on Saturday for a chance to play in the NSIC Championship match as they travel to St. Paul, Minn., to face Concordia University, St. Paul in the semifinal round at 2:30 p.m.
