The University of Minnesota Duluth exited the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Lydia Thering Fieldhouse with 11 Yellowjacket Open individual titles Saturday and among those were a pair of record breakers in senior
Brian Lee and sophomore
Ryan Tolkinen.
Lee placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 61'-8.5", which bettered the previous UMD mark of 59' 09.00", which he set one year ago (Feb. 16) at the University of Minnesota's Snowshoe Open, and was also an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and currently ranks #1 in the conference and #14 in NCAA Division II.
Tolkinen prevailed in the 200-meter hurdles, clocking in at 25.00, and in the process broke Forrest Randall's school-record effort from Jan. 27, 2007 (25.14).
Joining Lee and Tolkinen in the winner's circle were senior
Jason Lilja, who took first in the high jump (6'-8.75" -- both a facility record and NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark) as well as the long jump (22'-8.5"), junior
Austin Carlson in both the 200-meter dash (23.10) and 400-meter dash (50.90), sophomore
