The University of Minnesota Duluth produced six individual champions at Saturday's Yellowjacket Open on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus.
That sextet of winners included junior
Erica Kesseh oin the 60-meter dash (7.84), freshman
Lizzie Schlafke in the 3,000-meter run (10.59.46), sophomore
Danielle Kohlwey in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85), junior
Katherine Hawkinson in the triple jump (37'-6.75"), sophomore
Michaela Hesse in the high jump (5'-5.25") and junior
Rachelle LeBlanc in the pole vault (10'-4"). Nine Bulldogs also turned in second-place finishes, including Kesseh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.95) and Hawkinson in the long jump (17' 4.75" ).
In addition, a small number of Bulldogs competed in the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic over the weekend and top finisher in that group was senior
Breanna Colbenson, who took second in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 9:40.60. Some 45 runners were part of that race, including the winner, South Dakota State's Emily Donnay.
At the Iowa State University Classic on Friday, junior
Emi Trost finished third in mile run (behind only a pair of NCAA Division I athletes -- Brigham Young University's Erica Birk and the University of North Carolina's Megan Moye) with a time of 4:39.46.
In all, some 18 personal bests were set by Bulldogs at the three events.
UMD will be in Minneapolis, Minn., next Saturday (Feb. 18) for the University of Minnesota's Parent's Day Invitational -- the Bulldogs' final tuneup before the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
