The University of Minnesota Duluth placed sixth in the team standings at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which wrapped up today on the Minnesota State University-Mankato campus.
Host Minnesota State-Mankato captured its sixth consecutive NSIC crown with 183.50 points and was followed in the 11-school competition by the University of Sioux Falls (154 pts.), Wayne State College (69 pts.), Augustana University (67 pts.), the University of Mary (65.5 pts.) UMD (47 pts.) and Minnesota State University-Moorhead and Southwest Minnesota State University (both with 45 pts.)
UMD's top finish came in the weight throw where senior
Brian Lee took third for the second year in row with a toss of 17.51 meters. Junior
Henry Jessen was the Bulldogs' leading point producer as he personally generated 10 points via fourth-place performances in both the 3,000-meter (8:35.64) and 5,000-meter runs (14:57.92). Senior
Jason Lilja was also fourth in the men's high jump (2.07 meters) and eighth in the long jump (6.89 meters) while freshman
Wyatt Midtvedt (2:34.01) and senior
Ben Hanson (2:34.54) placed 5-6 in the 1,000-meter run. Other Bulldog points were attained by junior
Darrick Jackson in the 600-meter run (6th place; 1:23.28), junior
Austin Carlson in the 400-meter dash (7th place; 50.90), junior Clinton Treichel in the shot put (7th place; 14.55 meters) and sophomore
Chris Timm and freshman
Dan Clark in the pole vault (tied for 8th place; 4.27 meters).
UMD's two relay teams each turned in a fifth-place finish as the 4 x 400 unit of Jackson, Carlson, junior
Connor Behm and sophomore
Ryan Tolkinen clocked in at 3:24.02 and the distance medley quartet of senior
Boston Braack and juniors
Nathan Comer,
Connor Behm,
Grant Pulver posted a time of 10:33.35.
The top three finishers in each event and top two relay teams earned All-NSIC status.
