The University of Minnesota Duluth had a representative in 14 events at Saturday's Lake Superior Challenge at the College of St. Scholastica and placed first in 12 of them.
Leading the title parade for the Bulldogs were junior
Connor Behm and senior
Jason Lilja, who each won a pair of individual crows. Behm took first in the 200- and 400-meter dashes in times of 23:21 and 52.25, respectively, while Lilja did likewise in both the high jump (6'-8.75") (a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark) and long jump (22'-2.25"). Cody Sedbrook in the mile run (a career-best 4:20.30), junior
Logan Rubeck in the 60-meter hurdles (a career-best 8.79), freshman
Beau Bofferding in the 60-meter dash (7.10), senior
Ben Hanson in the 1,000-meter run (a career-best 2:34.15), sophomore
Chris Timm in the pole vault (13'-11.25"), sophomore
Garret Schleis in the triple jump (43'-8.5") and senior
Brian Lee in the weight throw (58'-3", the best toss in th Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference at the moment and a NCAA II provisional qualifying mark).
In addition, Hanson teamed up juniors
Nathan Comer and
Darrick Jackson and freshman
Wyatt Midtvedt to claim the 4 x 400-meter relay title in a time of 3:35.29.
A busy weekend await the Bulldogs as UMD will compete in the University of St. Thomas Invitational on Friday (Feb. 10) and the Yellowjacket Open in Superior, Wis., the following day. On Sunday and Monday, a select number of Bulldogs will pay a visit to Mankato, Minn., for the NSIC Indoor Heptathlon Championships.
