The University of Minnesota Duluth was outdoors in full force for the first time in 2017 Saturday as the Bulldogs paid a visit to St. Paul, Minn., for the Hamline University Invitational.
UMD posted seven Top 5 finishes at the event, which was held at Klas Field and among those was freshman
Nick Kalmes, who took third out of 60 competitors in the discus with a toss of 145'-04". Sophomore
Ryan Tolkinen placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.32 while sophomore
Garret Schleis (triple jump; 43'-2.50"), junior
Austin Carlson (400-meter dash; 50.19), sophomore
Andrew Lind (high jump; 6'-0.75") all came in fifth in their respective events. Junior
Connor Behm, freshman
Bradford Owens, sophomore
Casey Reeves and junior
Nick Beattie took third place in the 4 x 100-meter relay (43.77) and Tolkinen, Behm, Carlson and junior
Darrick Jackson hooked up to finish fifth in the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:22.67).
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Saint John's University Invitational and Multi-Events meet in Collegeville, Minn., this upcoming Saturday and Sunday (April 8-9).
