The University of Minnesota Duluth opened its 2018 season Friday night by doubling up on the College of St. Scholastica 6-3 at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
UMD won three of the four doubles events with senior
Shelby Benkofske and sophomore
Megan Anderson prevailing at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and seniors
Elsa Erickson and
Katie Baasch taking No. 2 doubles, 8-6.Â
Benkofske dominated at No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets while Anderson, a fellow team co-captain, also won convincingly (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2. Freshman
Natalie Cahill (No. 3) and
Isabel Thiner (No. 6) both posted singles victories in their collegiate debuts.
The Bulldogs will pay a visit to the Lydia Thering Fieldhouse in Superior, Wis. tomorrow morning (Jan. 27) for another exhibition engagement with the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 10 a.m.
