BULLDOGS' HOME FOOTBALL OPENER TO BE TELEVISED NATIONALLY
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
When the University of Minnesota Duluth makes its home football debut this fall, it will, for the first time ever, do so in front of a national television audience.
The Bulldogs' Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference clash with Southwest Minnesota State University on Sept. 11 is one of six games which will be carried live throughout the country in 2008 as part of the NCAA Division II and CBS College Sports Network's broadcast schedule.
The Sept. 11 telecast will also be shown live on Fox Sports Net North and made available via the internet at www.ncaa.com.
"This is a great opportunity to highlight not only our football program, said UMD head football coach and athletic director Bob Nielson. It's also a way we can showcase the entire university and the Duluth community as well to a national audience."
The rare Thursday night outing (it was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13) will mark the second time ever a Bulldog home game has been televised outside the local viewing area since Sept. 18, 1982 when UMD's home opener with Minnesota State University-Mankato was carried regionally by ABC-TV.
