The University of Minnesota Duluth has qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Championships in three of the past four years, and according to at least one preseason ranking, the Bulldogs could find themselves back at that national event once again come this November.

UMD, which returns 20 letterwinners from last year's NCAA II championship meet qualifier, was slotted fourth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason rankings for the NCAA II Central Region. Fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference combatant Augustana College, the defending NCAA II champion, topped the list and was followed by the University of Mary of the NSIC and Pittsburg State University of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. UMD will be captained this season by the senior Larissa Johnson and junior Kaitlin Hassings.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs checked in at No.10 -- the same position it finished in last year's NCAA II Central Region Championship. UMD retains the services of some 10 holdovers from a year ago, including senior captain Tim Lasch, and sophomore Dan Nielsen, the reigning NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Year.
