Saturday, February 18, 2012

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's tennis team stayed on familiar grounds as they faced inner-city rival, the College of St. Scholastica, but ultimately fell 4-5 Friday night.

Senior Katie Bolf continued her undefeated streak at the No. 1 singles spot after defeating Hillary Bungarden (6-3, 6-7 (10-4)). Junior Brittany Thompson notched another win in the No. 2 singles category, edging Rachel Zweiner (2-6, 6-3 (10-7)). The Bulldogs' final singles victory came from sophomore Kelsey Cunningham at the No. 6 ranking as she defeated Megan Lawrence (6-4, 7-5).

In doubles play, UMD's only pair of victors came in the No. 3 slot, with the pairing of freshmen Alyssa Brunelli and Kara Saemann, who trumped the Saints' Alek Ochrymowicz and Alexis Gunderson (8-4).

The Bulldogs hit the road on Feb. 18, where they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to face the University of St. Thomas. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
