Junior forward Jheri Booker once again led the Bulldogs in points (21) and rebounds (8) on Saturday afternoon.

The University of Minnesota Duluth got head coach Annette Wiles her first victory as the Bulldogs' general Saturday afternoon in front of 1,011 fans, knocking off Northern State University 64-60 at the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Junior forward Jheri Booker got the first basket, and snagged the last rebound, of the game to lead UMD (1-2) to victory in the opening game of the first-ever Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Holiday HoopsFest. The Summerville, Ga., native finished the game with 21 points and eight boards (both game-highs) in 27 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs slowly built their lead to 13 with just five minutes left in the first half, but the Wolves (2-2) clawed their way back, getting the score to 31-26 at halftime.

The two teams traded buckets to open the second half, and UMD eventually found itself ahead 47-40 at the 10:28 mark. Northern State proceeded to score seven unanswered points in less than a minute, knotting the score at 47-47, but the Bulldogs were able to counter, going on an 8-0 run, putting the game away in the process.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Hewitt was the only other Bulldog in double-figures, pouring in 18 points and nabbing four boards.

The Wolves were paced by Mikayla Barondeau - who scored 16 points - and Jodi Reinschmidt, who added eight rebounds on top of her 11 points.

UMD will play the final of its two non-conference games as part of the conference basketball gathering, tipping off against Wayne State (Neb.) College tomorrow (Nov. 30) at 6 p.m. at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.
