AS A BULLDOG: Stepped up to be a stabilizing front three force for the Bulldogs last season ... attracted some much-deserved national attention heading into this fall -- was deemed a 2012 preseason All-American by Beyond Sports College Network ... is one of two All-NSIC North Division first team selections the Bulldogs retain from a year ago (senior offensive lineman Garth Heikkinen is the other) ... opened 2011 at noseguard before shifting over to left end for the season’s last nine games ... ranked ninth among all 2011 Bulldogs in tackles with 42 (the most of any down lineman) and was third in stops for a loss (11.0) ... was chosen the team’s Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman (the Duce Rassmussen Award) for 2011 ... displayed plenty of potential and promise while serving in a backup capacity two years ago ... was involved in 16 total tackles, including 3.5 which occurred behind the line of scrimmage ... also forced one fumble that season ... was redshirted as a first-year freshman in 2009. BEFORE UMD: Received his pre-collegiate training at Ashwaubenon High School, where he started for two seasons on the Jaguars’ defensive line … racked up 15 sacks and 24 tackles for a loss as a senior captain for loss en route to being chosen to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State Team and the Fox River Classic Conference Defensive Player of the Year … was an All-FRCC pick in 2007 and 2008 as well … played under head coach Larry Nelson at Ashwaubenon High School … also made quite a name for himself in the prep swimming circles, winning a state title in the breast stroke and earning All-State acclaim three times.
