AS A BULLDOG: Should benefit handsomely from another year of collegiate seasoning and now will be counted on heavily to be one of UMD’s main go-to guys in the offensive zone ... wound up with seven goals and nine assists last season, with each of those 16 points coming in different games and all but three contributing to Bulldog victories ... assembled a nifty nine-game scoring streak which started in mid-November and stretched two months ... played in all but one contest (the rematch against Notre Dame on opening weekend while nursing a lower body injury) as a sophomore ... also had three game-winners to his 2011-12 credit and was second only to J.T. Brown in both penalties (22) and penalty minutes (59) among Bulldogs ... endured some of the expected first-year growing pains early on in the 2010-11 season, but by year’s end had the look of a grizzled collegiate veteran ... potted one goal against three different Western Collegiate Hockey Association foes in Duluth -- Michigan Tech (Nov. 12), Wisconsin (Jan. 15) and Nebraska Omaha (March 5) -- and added two assists for a five-point rookie season ... was among the 11 Bulldogs to mark in the scoring column at the 2010 Frozen Four -- picked up an assist in UMD’s 4-3 semifinal round win over Notre Dame ... secured a playing assignment in 36 outings as a rookie, including the last 21 in a row ... was the youngest member of the 2010-11 Bulldogs (he didn’t turn 19 until a month after the season ended).
BEFORE UMD: Became the second Shattuck-St. Mary School graduate to enlist his services with the Bulldogs (left winger Michael Gergen, 2005-09, was the first) ... put the wraps on his second year at the Fairbault, Minn.-based prep school in 2009-10 by racking up 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points in 52 outings ... those 24 goals were the fourth most of any Sabre ... made a sizeable splash as an SSM rookie with a 42-point effort (20 goals and 22 assists) in 50 games ... was taken in the third round with the 69th overall selection by Florida Panthers in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft ... played two seasons for the Fort Frances (Ontario) High School Muskies before enrolling at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in 2008-09.
